On 11 October 2021, the Real Property Amendment (Certificates of Title) Act 2021 commenced, which abolished the Certificates of Title (CTs) and the control of the right to deal (CoRD) framework. All existing CTs have been cancelled and CTs will no longer be issued. Existing CTs will not need to be produced, and CoRD holder consent will not be required, for a dealing or plan to be registered. All existing Guidelines subject to this change are currently being reviewed and will be updated to reflect these changes. For further information regarding the abolition of CTs, please see https://www.registrargeneral.nsw.gov.au/property-and-conveyancing/eConveyancing/abolition-of-certificates-of-title

Can I keep the price I paid for my property confidential?

No. NSW Land Registry Services (NSW LRS) does not under any circumstances suppress or withhold the purchase price of any property. NSW LRS is required by legislation, including the Real Property Act 1900 and the Valuation of Land Act 1916, to collect property sales information and make it available for public inspection.

Property sales price information by itself will generally not be considered as personal information under the NSW Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998.

Requests for the suppression of property price information in websites external to NSW LRS should be made directly to the administrator of those websites.

Property sales information is collected by NSW LRS at the time of registration of a property transfer from information on transfer documents and accompanying Notice of Sale (where required). These forms contain privacy notes indicating that the information supplied will be made publicly available.

As well as maintaining various public registers for this purpose, NSW LRS also collects property information data on behalf of the NSW Valuer General. This data forms part of the information available on the Valuer General NSW Valuation Portal website.

Property sales information for individual properties from 2001 is available free of charge through the NSW Spatial Collaboration Portal’s Land Values and Property Information Page.

NOTE: Any requests for suppression of personal information must be made to the Office of the Registrar General. See this page under the heading “Suppression of personal information”.
